Tips for LAB thesis supervisors

Theseus

Theseus is a service provided by Arene (the Rectors’ Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences), which offers online access to theses and publications of Finnish universities of applied sciences. LAB has three collections on Theseus:

The metadata and thesis files saved in the open collection are freely available online. The restricted collection contains only the metadata and abstract(s). Theses saved in the restricted collection are available for reading at the Lahti and Lappeenranta campus libraries during customer service hours. If a person interested in reading the thesis from the restricted collection cannot come to the campus library, they can send an email to theseus@lab.fi.

Theseus also contains collections of theses and publications from the Lahti and Saimaa Universities of Applied Sciences that preceded LAB.

Thesis file to be saved in Theseus

The thesis file saved in Theseus has to be in compliance with the thesis guidelines, checked, approved, ready for publication and in PDF/A format. The PDF/A file format is a requirement for the long-term preservation of files set by the National Library of Finland, the administrator of Theseus. The student and the thesis supervisor are responsible for ensuring that the thesis submitted to Theseus complies with the given guidelines in terms of layout and content. The student is responsible for ensuring that the thesis file meets the accessibility requirements.

The correct format of the thesis file is PDF/A.

  • Only one file is submitted in Theseus.
    • A guide created in connection with the thesis will be included in the same thesis file as an appendix. All other appendices of the thesis will also be included in the same file.
    • The maximum size for the thesis file is 2 GB.
  • In addition to the PDF/A, an mp3 audio file or an mp4 video file can be submitted to Theseus.
