Authorized Users: faculty and other staff members (also retired), students
Walk-in-Users: members of the public who are permitted to access the Licensed Material within the Licensee’s physical premises.

Permitted use

Use of the Licensed Material is permitted for educational purposes: for the purpose of education, teaching, distance learning, private study and/or research.

Authorized and Walk-in-Users may
- Access, browse, view, collate, display, search and retrieve the Content,
- Download, copy paste, save and store on electronic media, print and photocopy single articles, chapters or other individual items of the Content,
- Distribute single articles, chapters or other individual items of the Content in print or electronic form to other Authorized Users.
- Distribute single copies of single articles, chapters or other individual items in the Content in print or electronic form including email to third parties outside the Licensee for the purposes of scientific research and communication or to be used for the basis of discussion groups. This sharing must be incidental, non-systematic and not for commercial use.
- Publicly display or publicly perform single articles book chapters or portions thereof or other individual items of the Content as part of a presentation at onsite and/or online seminar, conference, or workshop and academic meetings. Parts of the Content may be licensed under open access license Terms (“Open Access Content”) and in such cases those license terms govern the use.

Prohibited use

Neither Licensee nor Authorized Users shall:
- Remove, obscure or alter any copyright or other notices, trademarks, logos, service marks or any other proprietary rights appearing in or on the Content except as otherwise permitted in these user terms.
- Update, change, revise, adapt, modify, translate, transform or create any derivative work of the Content except to the extent necessary to make it perceptible on a screen excluding any changes to the substance of the Content or as otherwise permitted in these user terms
- Except as permitted in these user terms or by applicable law, redistribute, reproduce, or transmit the Content by any means including electronic (e. g., via e-mail, FTP) nor post it on personal or public websites or on public networks,
- Systematically download any Content to its own or any third-party server, use routines designed to continuously and automatically search and index the Content (including its full text and metadata), such as web-crawling or spider programs, or engage in any activity likely to burden the Platforms (for avoidance of doubt one request per second is not deemed likely to burden the Platforms. One request means the usage of one of Licensor’s API’s per second (application programming interface) or one fetch of a page URL per second)) except as otherwise permitted in these user terms,
- Directly or indirectly use or assist any third party to use the Content for any Commercial Use; or
- Otherwise use the Content in a manner that would infringe the copyright or other proprietary rights contained therein.

Text and Data Mining

“Text and Data Mining” (“TDM”) means (i) performing automated searches, selection of content, and structured analyses of content including data embodied therein, (ii) the sorting, parsing, addition or removal of linguistic structures, and the selection and inclusion of discrete parts of content into another form for educational, scientific or research purposes such as classification or recognition of relations, patterns, and associations, (iii) the extraction, alternative representation or translation, expression or discussion of any extracts from mined content, whether in the form of a direct extraction or a representation in any form.
“TDM Materials” means the materials, data and information created for or during TDM based on the Content.
“TDM Output” means the data and information which is the result of any TDM, excluding any verbatim duplication of the Content in whole or in part. Authorized Users may however use parts of the Content for citation purposes in connection with the TDM Output, if and to the extent such citations is allowed by Finnish copyright law.

Authorized Users may
- download and/or extract information from the Content for the purpose of TDM to a server or computer which is part of Licensee’s Secure Network and only accessible to Authorized Users and Licensee (“Internal Server”),
- perform TDM on such Content and/or TDM Materials for the duration of a specific TDM project.
- internally store electronic copies of the Content and the TDM Materials limited to such quantities as necessary to ensure efficient use by Authorized Users in connection with their work on a TDM project. Such storage shall be limited to the duration of the TDM project. Copies of Content and the TDM Materials shall be deleted promptly after the end of each TDM project except for such copies that are not copyright protected according to applicable Finnish Copyright law or for copies of Content and/or TDM Materials to which exceptions of copyright under Finnish Copyright Law apply and which have been lawfully made at the time of creation.
- make the TDM Output available to third parties, subject to the limitations in these terms.

Additional prohibitions regarding TDM
Authorized Users may not
- commercially use or allow commercial use of the TDM Output including but not limited to creation of derivative products or services that would compete with or negatively affect Licensor or Licensor’s Affiliates products or services,

For the avoidance of doubt: The use of TDM Output for scientific publication (either offline and online) does not constitute commercial use in the aforementioned way
- allow a third party to access or use any TDM Materials
- perform TDM for a third party
- store Content or TDM Materials on any server other than an Internal Server.

Remote access

Remote access is permitted for Authorized Users via the Licensee institution's secure network.
