Authorised users

Current members of faculty and staff of the subscribing organisation (incl. permanent, temporary, contract or visiting staff and faculty), and individuals currently studying at the organisation, who are permitted to access the secure network and who have been issued with a password or other authentication.

Walk-in-users who are not authorized users but who are permitted to access the secure network from computer terminals within the physical premises of the library.

Permitted use

Authorized and walk-in-users may: 

  • Search, download, view, retrieve and display the Material.
  • Electronically save copies of parts of the Material.
  • Print off single copies of parts of Material.
  • Make a reasonable number of photocopies of parts of the Material, provided that such photocopies are used only to supply Authorized Users.
  • Distribute single copies of parts of the Material in print or electronic form including email to third parties outside the FinELib consortium for the purposes of scientific research and communication or to be used for the basis of discussion groups.
  • Publicly display or publicly perform a reasonable amount of the Material as part of a presentation at a seminar, conference, or workshop, or other such similar activity.
  • Reading impaired Authorized and Walk-in-Users are permitted to use Braille displays, voice synthesizers and other such devices to enable use of the Material.
  • Use the Material for Text and Data Mining.
  • Extract and use excerpts from the Material for academic research, scholarship, and other educational purposes, including extraction and manipulation for the purpose of illustration, explanation, example, comment, criticism, teaching, research, and analysis.
  • Use, with appropriate credit, figures, tables, and brief excerpts from the Material in the Authorized User’s own scientific, scholarly, and educational works including but not limited to books and articles.

In addition, authorized users may:

  • Distribute a reasonable amount of the Material in print or electronic form to other Authorized users. This shall include the distribution of a copy for teaching purposes to each individual student Authorized User taking part in a course at the Licensee’s institution.
  • Incorporate parts of the Material in printed or electronic form in Academic Works, including reproductions of the Academic Works for personal use and library deposit, if such use conforms to the customary and usual practice of the Licensee. Reproductions in printed or electronic form of Academic Works may be provided to sponsors of such Academic Works. Each item shall carry appropriate acknowledgement of the source, listing title and copyright owner.
  • Incorporate parts of the Material in printed and electronic course packs, study packs, resource lists and in any other material (including but not limited to multi-media works) to be used in the course of instruction and/or in virtual and managed environments (including but not limited to virtual learning environments, managed learning environments, virtual research environments and library environments) hosted on a Secure Network. Each item shall carry appropriate acknowledgement of the source, listing title and copyright owner. Course packs in non-electronic non-print perceptible form, such as Braille, may also be offered to Authorized Users who, in the reasonable opinion of the Licensee, are reading impaired.
  • Deposit the learning and teaching objects as referred to in clause 3.4.3. in electronic repositories operated by the Licensee on a Secure Network. The access and use of such learning and teaching objects shall be governed by the terms and conditions of the applicable repository, provided that any access and use of the licensed materials contained in the learning and teaching objects does not breach the terms of this Agreement.

Prohibited use

You may not:

  • Permit anyone other than Authorized or Walk-In-Users to access or use the Material, save as permitted above.
  • Systematically make printed or electronic copies of multiple extracts of the Material save as permitted in the Agreement.
  • Display or distribute any part of the Material on any electronic network, including without limitation the Internet and the World Wide Web, other than a Secure Network save as permitted in this Agreement.
  • Use the whole or any part of the Material for any Commercial Use or any purpose other than Educational Use.
  • Remove or alter the authors’ names or the Licensor’s copyright notices or other means of identification or disclaimers as they appear in the Licensed Material save as permitted in this Agreement.
  • Publish, distribute, or make available the Material, works based on the Material or works which combine it with any other material, save as permitted in this Agreement.
  • Alter, abridge, adapt, or modify the Material, except to the extent necessary to make it perceptible on a computer screen, to Authorized and Walk-in Users or as otherwise permitted in this agreement. For the avoidance of doubt, no alteration of the words or their order is permitted.

Remote access

Authorized users are allowed remote access to the material via a secure network.
